“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” – Hippocrates
Who can benefit from clinical nutrition?
- Anyone suffering with a health issue such as fatigue, trouble losing weight, digestive upset, headaches, allergies, and much more.
- Someone with one or more health issues that are acute, or have become chronic, and are impacting their quality of life.
- Anyone ready to make a positive improvement that will put them back in charge of their own health.
- Women and men planning to start a family and looking to support their chances of a healthy conception.
- Anyone who is healthy, but is confused on what nutritional supplements would be the most beneficial for them.
Americans are overfed and undernourished
As a nation, we eat poor quality foods that have been stripped of nutrients. We do not eat enough fresh produce and quality protein. The foods we eat, such as sugar, refined flour, genetically modified and processed foods, are not providing our bodies with the nutrition they need to survive and be healthy. The depletion of minerals in our soils and medications we take, also leave us lacking many important nutrients and minerals, therefore our bodies are starving and we are sick.
Given proper nutrition, the human body has an amazing ability of healing itself.
Food is medicine and nutrition is essential to reaching optimal health. Nutrition is part of the foundation for which your body is able to function, and making dietary shifts can have a profound impact on your overall well-being. If properly fed and given the right nutrients, the human body is designed to repair itself. To do so we need to eat a healthy diet, exercise, and take high quality supplements made from whole food.
Benefits of a whole food diet:
- Balanced hormones
- Less fatigue
- Less inflammation, aches and pains
- Improved digestion
- Increased ability to focus
- Weight loss and management
- Enhanced well-being
- Decrease in many symptoms
What is Nutritional Testing?
Nutritional testing is done using a symptom survey and Meridian Autonomic Testing (MAT) which is a unique muscle testing technique using acupuncture points located on the surface of the body. The testing is non-invasive and does not use needles. These points relate to body organ systems and glands. It helps to identify certain nutritional needs your body may be lacking, causing non-optimal health and then we can determine the most appropriate nutritional supplementation your individual body may need.
The practitioner will contact the specific reflexes with their hand. With the other hand they will test the deltoid muscle of your extended arm. If the reflex being contacted is “active” the nervous system will respond by reducing the energy to the extended arm and the arm will weaken and drop. This drop signifies underlying stress or dysfunction which can be affecting your health.
An individual nutrition program will be recommended based on your needs and goals. This will include lifestyle changes, nutritional tips, and whole food nutritional and herbal supplements. Your body is amazing, and it is capable of healing itself if given the correct nutrition. Our programs will typically include three stages, 1) detox, 2) repair & rebuild, and 3) maintain & prevent.
Initial Visit – Determine if there are any nutritional, emotional or structural dysfunctions that are preventing you from reaching your health goals. Recommend a nutritional program and treatment plan.
Return Visits – Monitor the areas of deficiency in your body and work to repair and rebuild any areas that need focus. For example, we will heal the digestive tract, balance the endocrine system, unburden the liver and digestive system of any toxins, free your body from sugar, wheat or other high glycemic foods to reduce insulin and cortisol imbalances, identify any food sensitivities and remove inflammatory processes, address any yeast or parasite issues, correct your gut flora imbalance, boost your immune system, address any circulatory issues with the brain, heart and legs, address any vitamin or mineral deficiencies, and begin specific correction of any chronic conditions.
Maintenance – It is easier to stay healthy than it is to get healthy! Good health is the best insurance there is! I will work with you to maintain your health and wellness once it is restored, usually general nutritional support is given and occasional system repairing and rebuilding may be needed short term to address any acute issues that may arise along the way.
My technique is to combine clinical nutrition, when needed, with your Chinese medical diagnosis to determine the exact nutrients, herbs and nutritional changes needed to re-establish balance and restore health. It is my goal to provide you with a proper education so you understand why these changes are important.
I perform a thorough nutritional analysis during your acupuncture sessions in order to provide you with the most comprehensive treatment plan. You may also schedule a nutritional consultation if needed.
